The week of October 11, 2013 is in the history books. We had a great week in room 177. The past couple of weeks have brought new students to our room. Welcome to Jaheem and David! In math we spent much of the week preparing for our first unit test. We will begin it on Monday, Oct. 14. We also spent time on our persuasive letters this week. The biggest things we did this past week is the Hillis Walk-A-Thon. It was so much fun and energizing too. If you still have envelopes to turn in, please be sure to get them in this week. we also had our first Popcorn Read-In. Those students who read 560 minutes or more were invited to bring popcorn, a blanket, and a good book to enjoy for 30 minutes. The picture above is of the Read-In. Be sure to keep your child reading for 20 minutes each day and sign their planner after reading. I am looking forward to conferences coming up this Wednesday and next. Students are welcome to attend. Be sure to call the school if you need to reschedule. Have a wonderful week and enjoys the cool fall weather! Mrs. Gilbert Well here we are in October! Where has the time gone?Things are really grooving in our classroom. We have finally settled into a consistent routine and I think the students are feeling comfortable in that routine. This week feels like it is full of assessment. We will be assessing the first units in Math and Reading this week, as well as our weekly spelling test. We have been reviewing for the math test and after a first glimpse of the reviews, I am pleased with the students retention of material. I have noticed that some students need to slow down and make sure they understand the word problems and solve what is being asked. This topic might be a good discussion starter for you at dinner time. Last week we had our field trip to Living History Farms. It was very muddy, but still fun and educational. Students will be using what they learned in our Social Studies and Writing Integration over the next few weeks. Check out the picture above from our day. Also be sure to look at the other pictures I have posted from our trip. We were fortunate enough to spot a couple of bucks and a doe during our trek though the woods. If you look very close at a couple of the woodland photos, you can sort of see one of them. All students were so giddy about it, I think they scared them away. It was still pretty cool, though. I look forward to meeting with everyone at conferences next week (or the following depending on your scheduled time.) Be sure to let me know if you are unable to make it to your scheduled time. I would be happy to reschedule. Today we walked to First Assembly with our Kindergarten buddies. You will be happy to know that all of the fourth graders were very responsible when walking with their buddy. It was just a perfect day for a walk. As always, if you have any questions, please contact me. Have a great week and enjoy this beautiful fall weather! Mrs. Gilbert |
